'Solo Cities'

Here's an interesting article that I want to share with you all....it's an interesting GK:p

Going Solo in the USA
By Sperling's BestPlaces
Sep 29th, 2008

Last year, the New York Times published the results of its census analysis stating that 51% of U.S. women live without a spouse. However, Sperling's BestPlaces discovered this might not be the whole story.
"The Times came to some insightful conclusions with their analysis," said Bert Sperling, lead researcher for Sperling's BestPlaces. "We made some different assumptions to more closely reflect our national lifestyle where fifteen year-old girls aren't commonly expected to get married."
The New York Times used, at that time, the latest demographics from the Census Bureau, including women above age fourteen who were unmarried or separated. Indeed, according to a University of Texas survey, the average age of women at their first marriage is 26.
Sperling's firm looked at similar Census data, but restricted its analysis to single, widowed, and divorced women age 25-64. Without this cap on the age range, places with higher concentrations of elderly people would show a misleading number of single women.
Sperling's conclusion is significantly different than the New York Times. In the 379 metro areas nationwide, 34% of women 25-64 are single.
Despite all the attention to this new milestone for single women, the difference between the number of single men and women is not as great as one might think. Nationally, 32% of men are single.
Where do the lonely hearts live?
"As interesting as the nation as a whole is trending," Sperling said, "we want to see which places had the greatest percentage of single men and women."
Sperling's firm broke down the data by metro area, revealing interesting patterns on where singles live.
San Francisco seems to attract single people like a good pickup line, if there is such a thing. Compared to every other metro area in the U.S., the San Francisco region, which includes areas south like San Mateo and Redwood City, has the highest percentage of single people.
Detroit, with 43% singles, is second only to San Francisco. New York, and Boston round out the top four.
Most southern cities are not flush with single people. Those cities in southern states that have more singles are homes to colleges, where students might choose to remain after graduation, or are known for their nightlife. New Orleans, Austin, and a handful of Florida cities all have more singles than the national average.
"There has to be a lot going on for singles," said David Evans in a phone interview with BestPlaces. Evans is an online dating researcher based in Boston, a city that is 39% single. Evans said Boston has the key factors for single living. "It's a college town, it has nightlife, culture, and lots of jobs."
Whether by choice or circumstance, many are living in some of the biggest cities, surrounded by millions, and still find themselves alone.

Hot Jobs for NIght Owls

There are many different types of jobs for different kinds of people out there. For those who like to stay up late or simply work better late at night, here are some of the jobs that can be considered that was obtained from Yahoo.

Hot Jobs for Night Owls
by Jennifer Acosta Scott, ClassesUSA

It's easy to spot the office night owl. He rolls into the office late, bleary-eyed, with a cup of coffee in hand. These workers' internal clocks just don't match up with the typical nine-to-five workday -- but that doesn't mean they have to resign themselves to a lifetime of dozing through early-morning meetings. Check out a sampling of some of the niftiest night-shift jobs.
EMT/Paramedic
Emergency medical technicians are needed round the clock. However, most workers tend to prefer daytime hours, leaving lots of opportunities open for night shifts, says Connie Meyer, a full-time paramedic and member of the board of directors for the National Association of EMTs. You'll need people skills, basic first aid and emergency care knowledge, and of course, the ability to stay calm in a crisis. "Panicking is OK, but you just need to know what to do with yourself when you do it," Meyer says.Average annual salary: $29,390; earning potential increases as you move from basic EMT certification to paramedic certification.
Casino Dealer
Casinos are little cities that never sleep, so there's always a demand for nighttime workers at the blackjack, craps and other gaming tables. Promotions are also possible. "Once you become a dealer and have a good track record, you can move up to pit manager or shift supervisor," says Carol Drea, director of corporate training at Atlantic Cape Community College's Casino Career Institute in New Jersey. Some casinos will train dealers on the job, but most prefer to hire dealers that have had formal training on at least three games.Average annual salary: $17,010, but a sharp dealer at a busy casino can double or even triple their wages with tips.
Registered Home Health Nurse
Home health agencies often need registered nurses to visit patients' homes in the middle of the night to reset IVs, troubleshoot finicky medical equipment, and assist in emergencies. "Catheters can come out, or maybe a patient falls and you have to assess whether they have an injury," says Mary Jean Schumann, director of nursing practice and policy for the American Nurses Association. You can become a registered nurse by completing a three- to four-year associate degree program, a four-year baccalaureate program, or a diploma program at a hospital.Average annual salary: $59,730
Newspaper Visual Journalist
A crew of designers often takes over the newsroom in the evening to place stories, along with photos and other graphic elements, on the next day's newspaper pages. Ideal candidates should have some technical savvy and a graphically-oriented eye. "You need to understand the basics of design and know a fair amount about computer programs, such as Quark XPress and CCI," says Elise Burroughs, executive director of the Society for News Design, a professional organization for visual journalists. Most visual journalists have college degrees, usually in journalism, art or graphic design.Average annual salary (based on "editor" positions): $51,750.
Cargo Pilot
The major freight companies -- such as UPS, DHL and Airborne -- do 80 percent of their flights at night, says Kit Darby, president of jet-jobs.com, a career information service for airline pilots. "These pilots are always moving against the clock," Darby says. These shipping companies also offer some of the highest salaries for pilots. To get a job with one of the major flying outfits, you'll need a commercial pilot's license, an airline transport pilot license, and about 5,000 hours of flying time.Average Annual Salary: $140,380
Clinical Lab Technicians
Someone has to process those lab tests for which patients so nervously await results. Since the hospital business is 24/7, many clinical lab technicians (also known as clinical laboratory scientists or medical technologists) work the night shift to ensure workflow, much of which could translate into life or death for patients. According to the BLS, clinical laboratory personnel examine and analyze body fluids, and cells for bacteria, parasites, and other microorganisms, among other duties. An entry-level position typically requires a bachelor's degree in medical technology or one of the life sciences.Average Annual Salary: $49,700

~TIME~

Mankind has done many things and can do many things mainly thanks to the ability to think. But there’s one thing that Man can never or has not been able to overcome or control---Time. Time is just one thing that moves on its own regardless of what happen. It’s just like a person who prefers to work alone all the time and will constantly do its part without complaining or taking any breaks. Because of this cold hard fact, every being and the un-identified existence have to accept the presence of Time, Time being uncontrollable and Time moving and working constantly, non-stop.

So far, what Man is able to do is manage Time. Using the time that is available to do the task that needs to be completed, that is what’s been possible to be done. That’s why, Man is still restricted by Time. How? For students, school work given by teachers has to be completed WITHIN the given Time. Teachers, they have to complete the syllabus WITHIN the Time in the form of the timetable. In the working world, task has to be completed WITHIN the given Time. These few examples that can be observed in daily life have clearly proved my point. Of course you may say that these are all plain common sense. Yes it is, I agree with you but this is one of the things that we sometimes forget or fail to notice. That is why this serves as a reminder.

Like any other things, Time, its presence or existence has its pros and cons. I would describe Time as the character, Erik from the story ‘The Phantom of the Opera’—it can be one’s best friend and the worst enemy. Time is the best friend when one develops its skills through daily activities. And just as the saying goes, Time mends the heart when one is down, at least most of the time. Time can also foster friendships and strengthening them. These are some of the examples that showed Time as one’s best friend. Time is the worst enemy when it weakens one after failing to mend the heart, exposing one to the facts of old age, makes relationship fade and shows the reality of life that Death has to come.

With this said, one just can’t help but wonder what things would be without Time. Would it be that Death will not exist? Would it be that Man will not grow old? And if this happens, would it be that Man will not flourish as they don’t learn any skills through their daily activities? So many question can arise from the imaginative, creative and curious mind of Man. Even though it is a fact that Time will stay and exist, one things for sure, Man can always choose how they want to manage or use Time. Whether happy or sad or simply blank, Man decides.

Excuse to Avoid a Speeding Ticket

A guy bought a new Mercedes and was out on Highway 2 for a nice evening drive. The top was down, the breeze was blowing through what was left of his hair and he decided to open her up.

As the needle jumped up to 140 km/h, he suddenly saw red and blue flashing lights behind him. "There's no way they can catch a Mercedes," he thought to himself and opened her up further. The needle hit 150, 160...

Then the reality of the situation hit him. "What in the world am I doing?" he thought, and pulled over. The cop came up to him, took his license without a word and examined it and the car. "It's been a long day," said the cop. "This is the end of my shift and it's Friday the 13th. I don't feel like more paperwork, so if you can give me an excuse for your driving that I haven't heard before, you can go."

The guy thinks for a second and says, "Last week my wife ran off with a cop. I was afraid you were trying to give her back."

"Have a nice weekend," said the officer

Sincere Friends?

It used to be the thing when friendship can be made easily. That was during the younger days perhaps the pre-school days. I'm not saying that it can't be done now but it used to be that friends can be made at a short period of time and they are sincere to be your friend. I'm sure no one can deny that they have at least once in their life have people coming to them and being friends with them for their own reasons.

The reasons? Well, it comes in various forms. It could be perhaps for money, perhaps for getting some sort of higher status among other people because you are popular or perhaps because that person is wants to mix with smart people and you fit that person's bill of being the 'ideal' one to mix with. So my point here is that you'll never know but one thing's for sure, there are people who be friends with you for their own certain benefits.

Now once again don't get my wrong, I'm not trying to be some sort of a 'Grinch' here and say that "Nah, your close friend might be just using you", "That friend of yours is not sincere". NO. That is not what i intend to emphasise. It's just that I would like that highlight that there are such people and they do exist.

Maybe you are wondering, why do I want to highlight this? Simple, I just want to remind everyone to be sincere to your friends. Never that them for granted or take advantage of them because you'll never know what implication the 'small' gesture of yours may bring to your friend, him or her.

Lee Chong Wei

This particular post is dedicated to the guy who gave Malaysia the hope .... at least the hope for a GOLD. I nevertheless still think that he's the one who can win. Here's what i think went wrong... it is basically because Lee Chong Wei made too many mistakes perhaps due to nervousness and the fact that Lin Dan is so bloody muscular didn't help either.

But one thing's for sure, he deserves all the credit and recognition for this achievement. Chong Wei, get the Gold the next time!

A Non-Stan-Lee Spiderman Story

Now I'm sure everyone knows the man who gave the whole world the dose of great comics that makes life more interesting and gives us more imagination. Successful characters like Spiderman is what everyone would call-a Classic. It's something that is evergreen and would still remain prominent in the world of comics even after a long time.

In the world with many people having their own opinion, have you ever wondered how a Spiderman Cartoon would be that is not based on what Stan Lee has done? Here one that is done by these creative people. Check it out.

Gavel Club,

Public Speaking in my opinion is the ability to convey your message to an audience by speak in front of them. This is a skill that is gaining importance as people are not encouraged to speak out. Nowadays, even the employers want their employees to be able to do public speaking. Of course for those people who are lucky to be blessed with the ability to speak well in front of any audience, good for them as they have already an useful skill with them.

So what about those who tend to stutter or shiver or in extreme cases, simple unable to get the words out of the mouth due to nervousness when standing in front of an audience? What about those who want to be a better public speaker? Well, these people can start by joining a public speaking club such as Toastmaster's Club for adults and the junior Toastmaster's club called Gavel Club, for high school students between the age of 13-18 years old. Now why must they do that? How will it help them? By joining a public speaking club, one can have to opportunity to get use speaking in front of an audience or for those who have overcome their fear, they get the opportunity to improve their public speaking skills.

As they say, "Practise makes perfect". The same goes to public speaking. In a public speaking club, one can be encouraged by the support of their peers to overcome the fear of speaking in front of an audience. One can also improve as fellow members will evaluate each other and point out each other's strengths and weaknesses. As a results, the person is able to improve the public speaking ability.

While Toastmaster's Club is more common, Gavel Club is also available in Malaysia. One Gavel Club in Malaysia is the 1st Malaysian Gavel Club. So for those who are interested, do visit their site and know more about them. http://1stmalaysiangavelclub.wordpress.com/

BON ODORI

Perhaps some of you reading this have heard or been to this festival. For me, I've only been to it once. But for those who heard of this festival or have participated in it before for many times already, do you know how this festival come about? Like all festivals, there is always an interesting story in it. Here's some info I got from another website.

The Bon Odori FestivalOver a two day period July or August many Japanese American communities celebrate the Bon Odori Festival. This Buddhist dance festival is celebrated as a reminder of the gratefulness one should feel toward their ancestors. Bon Odori originates from the story of a Buddhist disciple who envisioned his deceased mother in the Realm of Hungry Ghosts where she was endulging in her own selfishness. Greatly disturbed, he went to Buddha and asked how he could release his mother from this realm. Buddha advised his disciple to perform some charitable act in memory of his mother. The disciple did this and, thus, saw his mother's release for the Realm of Hungry Ghosts. He also began to see the true nature of her past unselfishness and the many sacrifices that she had made for him. The disciple, happy because of his mother's release and grateful for his mother's kindness, danced with joy. From this dance of joy comes Bon Odori or Bon Dance, a time in which our ancestors and their sacrifices are remembered and appreciated.
Today the Bon Odori Festival participants continue this custom as they dance in traditional Japanese dress, including kimonos, yukata (cotton kimonos), and hopi coats (short coats styled like a kimono top). The dances may include the use of fans, castinets, straw hats or cotton towels and recall both daily life in Japan and rememberance of ancestors.
There is also a variety of other activities to take part in at the festival. Many of the Buddhist Churches hosting the Bon Odori Festivals will offer tours of the church and explanations of Buddhist practices. There are also performances throughout the day by community music groups including band music and taiko, Japanese Performance Drumming. Usually a variety of Japanese foods and crafts as well as games for both adults and children are also offered.

For those who wants to experience it, there's one in Malaysia at Mashushitta Stadium on 12th of July at night. I'm not sure about the time it starts but i guess it's around 8pm. So go there and have some fun!!!

Pope & Ah Peh

About a century or two ago, the Pope decided that all the Chinese had to leave Italy. Naturally there was a big uproar from the Chinese community. So the Pope made a deal. He would have a religious debate with a member of the Chinese community. If the Chinese wins, they could stay. If the Pope wins, the Chinese would leave. The Chinese realized that they had no other choice. So they picked a middle-aged man named Ah Peh to represent them. Ah Peh asked for one condition to be added to the debate. "To make it more interesting", he said, "neither side would be allowed to talk".The Pope agreed. The day of the great debate came. Ah Peh and the Pope sat opposite each other for a full minute. Then the Pope raised his hand and showed three fingers. Ah Peh looked back at him and raised one finger. The Pope waved his fingers in a circle around his head. Ah Peh pointed to the ground at where he sat. The Pope pulled out a loaf and a glass of wine. Ah Peh pull out an apple. The Pope stood up and said: "I give up. This man is too good. The Chinese can stay."An hour later, the cardinals were all around The Pope asking him what happened?. The Pope said, "first I held up three fingers to represent the holy trinity. He responded by holding up one finger to remind me that there was still one God common to both our religions.""Then I waved my finger around me to show him that God was all around us." He responded by pointing to the ground and showing that God was also right here with us.”"I pulled out the wine and loaf to show that God absolves all sin. He showed me an apple to remind us of the original sin. He had an answer for everything. What could I do?"Meanwhile, the Chinese community had crowded around Ah Peh. "What happened?" they asked."Well," said Ah Peh, "First he indicated to me that all Chinese had 3 days to get out of here. I replied to him f**k off and not one of us was leaving."

"Then he pointed out that this whole city would be cleared of Chinese. I showed him that we are staying right here." "Yes, and then???" asked the crowd. "I don't know", said Ah Peh, "He took out his lunch, and I took out mine!!!"

Life of a football fan during the off-season

With the BPL already ended and other leagues have found their champion of the season, here comes the time where there's no football-- the off-season. It's the time when football fans won't get their constant dose of football news and thrill of watching the matches. So this leaves those extremely hardcore fans of football to be like a drug addict without it's constant supply of drugs. Well, that may be a little extreme but it's something like that.

So what does a football fan do during this period of time? Well it's not like football is all of their life, it's just MOST OF IT. Perhaps for a young fan, they'll just go on and play more football so that they can have more of the action as a substitute to that of the league matches. The more mature ones will probably have a game in more of games like Football Fantasy and Fifa '08. Well of course there's still many other things that they can do without football but they will still need some form of football. Of course, the next big event is coming soon, the EURO 2008. And before that actual event there are some friendlies so maybe you can call that the dose of football but come on, we all know that friendlies are not enough to thrill any football fan, it's like a warm-up or some sort of lower dose of medicine.

The football season may be quiet this period, but i'm sure football fans will have the creativity to know what to do. Till the next season comes, let's hope for a thrilling EURO ahead. And by the way, GO GREECE!!!!

Opinion on Parliment Live Telecast

The Parliment Live Telecast was shown for the first time last week and there are sparks among the MPs as they start to call each other names. After that incident, there were some suggestions to stop to live telecast of Parliment meetings as they felt ashamed to see the acts of the MPs. But this is a better way for the public to understanding the people that they have voted in to represent them.
The second live telecast was shown today. The MPs have shown significantly better behaviour and this shows that by showing the meetings through live telecast, the meetings can be done in a better manner as the MPs know that they are being watched and they will do their best.

The only thing that is dissapointing about the live telecast is that during the 30 minutes allocated for Parliment meeting, only less than 15 minutes were shown. Nevertheless, this is a great move by the Malaysian Government to be more transparent. So it should go on..

3 offerings

In Buddhism, the believe is that God is another being in heavenly planes and the Buddhist version of heaven is known as NIbbana. Now just to clarify this to everyone, the Buddha is not a god and there is a statue of the Buddha because it serves as a reminder that the Buddha is the teacher and the Enlightened One, meaning he or she has discovered the truth and the truth that the Buddha found out will enable us to lead a better life when we follow it. If you noticed, I used the words "he or she" when I was referring to the Buddha. This is because the Buddha is like the name of a new level, sort of like a title for a person who has reached the level of Enlightenment so the Buddha could be a male or a female.

Now you may be wondering, how could the Buddha unable to be confirmed as a male or a female? The answer is simple, in Buddhism, the believe is that there are rebirths in the cycle called Samsara cycle. So everytime rebirth occurs, it is believe that suffering occurs. So to end suffering is the aim in Buddhism and to do that is to gain Enlightenment and go to Nibbana out of the Samsara cycle. There are 3 offerings that is offered to the Buddha and they are namely, Light, Water and Flowers. All this serve as a reminder and a significant symbol. The Light is that to show the way in darkness and this means to avoid evil. Water brings that meaning of purity and thus reminds people to purify their minds to be as pure as water. Flowers simply remind people of impermenance as nothing is permanent.

This is just a small part of Buddhism, hope you have a better understanding after reading this.

Significance of WESAK..

The annual cycle of the Spiritual Festivals offers opportunity for people of all faiths to cooperate. Together, the three full moon festivals of Aries, Taurus and Gemini form a united spiritual approach by humanity to divinity.
The Wesak Festival has been traditionally associated in eastern civilization with the Buddha, divine intermediary between the highest spirtual center on the planet, Shamballa, and the Hierarchy. The Buddha is the expression of the Wisdom of God, the embodiment of Light and the indicator of divine purpose, cooperating at this festival with his brother the Christ, who represents the Hierarchy. The Buddha embodies the Principle of Light, and because of this illumination humanity was able to recognize the Christ, embodiment of the still greater Principle of Love.
Each year at the time of Wesak, two great streams of energy — one focussed through the Buddha and the other through the Christ — are fused and blended, and it is the task of world servers to precipitate this combined energy into the waiting world.
The Wesak Festival is indeed a great spiritual event, with a powerful effect upon humanity. Groups of aspirants can at this time become channels for the higher energies released through the medium of the two focal points — the Buddha, who represents the overlighting essence of subjective realities, and the Christ, representative of aspiring humanity.
This is symbolized in religious rituals where the priest acts as the focal point; here, however, the priesthood in this great ceremony of contact is not a separate entity. All can be priests, the single qualification being the capacity to align oneself and be en rapport with the Soul, and thus be able to cooperate with other souls.
Wesak is a time of unusual inflow of life and of spiritual stimulation, serving to vitalize the aspiration of all humanity. At the time of the festival, through the united effort of the Christ and the Buddha working in closest cooperation, there is opened a channel of communication between humanity and deity through which an approach can be made to Those Who guide our planet, so that aspirants and disciples are able to contact energies not otherwise easily available.
In mutual service to humanity, at Wesak the Buddha and the Christ bring about a linking that blends East and West, uniting the world's major religions in a shared holy day in which religious distinctions disappear. In the beautiful water ceremony of communion is portrayed the symbol of the new age which is upon us, the Aquarian Age, the age of the Water Carrier.
During the Wesak Festival the Buddha becomes the "absorbing Agent" of Will. He uses the magnetic power of Love-Wisdom to attract this force to Himself and hold it steady, prior to redirecting it. The Christ then — on behalf of the Hierarchy — becomes the "receiving Agent" of this potent energy and the groups of Masters Who work with the human and sub-human kingdoms (in response to His demand) become the "directing Agents" for the sevenfold expression of this force.
So around the Wesak Festival, expansions of consciousness are made possible that are not possible at other times. Those of goodwill are stimulated spirtually to take initiation, in order to penetrate more deeply and consciously into the mysteries of the Kingdom of God. These reveal more about the wonder of our divinity, and about the Plan to which humanity is conforming. Each year, the Wesak marks the beginning of a cycle for the New Group of World Servers, that comprise three-year cycles of crisis, tension, and emergence.
At the Wesak Festival we may honor the Buddha, as well as ourselves, as dedicated transmitters of the energy that can be contacted at the full moon in Taurus. Each year as we experience the Wesak more consciously, it's important to hold the space for the inflow and distribution of energies, through safeguarding.
The focussed interplay of many minds working together in meditation produces a unity of thought powerful enough to reach the Great Lives watching over and guiding our planet. And the combined aspiration, consecration, devotion and intelligence of the group carries everyone to greater heights than could be attained alone.
The greater the number of people who meditate at this time, the stronger the magnetic field of the group heart and its invocative, indrawing power. It's up to each of us to attune with ever greater clarity to the note being sounded — to quiet the mind and transmute individual desires that only cause confusion and chaos, into desire for the greatest good of all.
We know where we are aligned ... with the Source of all that is. That Source provides uniquely and cooperates with All who are tuned to Its note of Life.

Funnel Cloud

On time my college friend and me were bored, so we rehearsed this trick we had heard about. My friend became pretty good at putting a penny on his head and then dropping it inside a funnel he had placed in the front of his pants.
For April Fool's Day, we decided to take this show on the road. First we stopped off at the convenience store and got ourselves a couple of super big slushy drinks. Then we went to a nearby mini-mall.
Right in the middle of the outdoor mall my friend started performing his penny in the funnel trick. Small groups of curious people would come and go. Then finally some dude who looked like he was trying way too hard to impress his girlfriend asked to try the trick.
He placed the funnel in the front of his pants and we handed him the penny we had been using. We even let him try it once, and after he failed, we encouraged him to try again. It was this time that we poured our slushies into the funnel and ran like hell.
He was shocked and didn't even chase us. He probably didn't even know what he would do if he had caught the two of us (it was good to stick together on this).
Anyway, that was our prank. I'm still curious to know if he had gotten another date out of her.

April Fools Day

Yesterday was April Fools Day, so what did you do to fool your friends? This is the time where many of us will be squeezing their brains to think of slick ways of tricking our friends and go "April Fool" ! Well, that's all in the name of fun.
But has anyone ever think of how April Fool becomes... well April Fools Day? This is something that i am curious about and I would like to share it with you all, the history behind April Fool's Day.

The history of April Fool's Day or All Fool's Day is uncertain, but the current thinking is that it began around 1582 in France with the reform of the calendar under Charles IX. The Gregorian Calendar was introduced, and New Year's Day was moved from March 25 - April 1 (new year's week) to January 1.
Communication traveled slowly in those days and some people were only informed of the change several years later. Still others, who were more rebellious refused to acknowledge the change and continued to celebrate on the last day of the former celebration, April 1. These people were labeled "fools" by the general populace, were subject to ridicule and sent on "fool errands," sent invitations to nonexistent parties and had other practical jokes played upon them. The butts of these pranks became known as a "poisson d'avril" or "April fish" because a young naive fish is easily caught. In addition, one common practice was to hook a paper fish on the back of someone as a joke.
This harassment evolved over time and a custom of prank-playing continue on the first day of April. This tradition eventually spread elsewhere like to Britain and Scotland in the 18th century and was introduced to the American colonies by the English and the French. Because of this spread to other countries, April Fool's Day has taken on an international flavor with each country celebrating the holiday in its own way.
In Scotland, for instance, April Fool's Day is devoted to spoofs involving the buttocks and as such is called Taily Day. The butts of these jokes are known as April 'Gowk', another name for cuckoo bird. The origins of the "Kick Me" sign can be traced back to the Scottish observance.
In England, jokes are played only in the morning. Fools are called 'gobs' or 'gobby' and the victim of a joke is called a 'noodle.' It was considered back luck to play a practical joke on someone after noon.
In Rome, the holiday is known as Festival of Hilaria, celebrating the resurrection of the god Attis, is on March 25 and is also referred to as "Roman Laughing Day."
In Portugal, April Fool's Day falls on the Sunday and Monday before lent. In this celebration, many people throw flour at their friends.
The Huli Festival is celebrated on March 31 in India. People play jokes on one another and smear colors on one another celebrating the arrival of Spring.

Interesting huh? So, no matter where you happen to be in the world on April 1, don't be surprised if April fools fall playfully upon you.

Unsure of what to do with it?”
“Want to contribute for the benefit of
others?”

Here’s your chance to do so!
SJBA Youth Section’s latest

The main objective of this project is
to create awareness of 1 cent coin

to the introduction of the “rounding

all over-the-counter transactions. All
payment totals will either be rounded
up or down to the nearest five cents.

In conjunction to the above, we will
be collecting 1 cent coins to raise
funds for the “Life Is Beautiful
(L.I.B)” project that aims to achieve
two objectives: a) to release animals
that are held in captivity or for
slaughter b) to cultivate loving
kindness and appreciation towards
other beings among participants

This collection drive will be on-going
from now until the 30st of March 2008.

WATCHES

Watches have come a long way since being use practically just to tell time. Nowadays, handphones can tell time so most of the time watches are no longer needed to tell time. Watches are worn nowadays for another reason, and that is to make a fashion statement or simply just to complete one's overall image. A person who wears a watch normally projects the image of a person who puts punctuallity as the priority. The watch is also the simplest accessory that can make a person's image look more 'complete'.

So for those interested in new designs of watches, you can check out this link. http://search.ebay.com.my/_W0QQsassZvinoz525

It's another time of the year

Every year during or after Chinese New Year, we will mostly be informed about the meaning of the year in the astrology cycle. This is the Year of the Rat and in the astrology cycle, it is the first in the cycle ( i have checked in wikipedia) :p and at the same time being pioneers in things as these people born in the Year of the Rat are willing to take the first step. They are also said to be able to adapt to their surroundings very well and also make good advisors. These things or characteristics may be true to some, but the thing is that one must not completely follow them. I am saying this because there are people who believe these things completely just because they come out of the mouth of a feng shui master (i technically don't really believe feng shui tips).

Now i am not saying that whatever the feng shui masters say are not good or useless, it's just that sometimes when people follow to much of these things, their thinking becomes unreal. Meaning that they start to have things like you have to position certain things so that the Year of the Rat will be good for you and because you are born in the Year of the Rat. So the bottomline is that these things called feng shui tips i think are interesting, you can trust it and follow it but don't overdo it. That's my point. :]

Handy Tips:Pin the blame on the donkey

You are in an argument and you are feeling angry, at the same time the person you are argueing with is feeling the same way so yelling at one another will only make situation worst. So the better way is to :

  • Stop and ask yourself: "Do i really need to say this?" Wait and think about what's troubling before you speak about it.
  • be willing to say:"OK, I'll back off and really try to listen to you this time." Sometimes sticking up for one self is good but sometimes it leads to a stalemate.
  • Recognise when you are angry and blaming your partner. Try this strategy: Say, "I think I'm getting angry . " Then pause and say, " I need time to think over what's going on in me before i can talk to you."
  • Look deeply within yourself t find what is troubling you. Communicate about what is causing your pain.
  • The blame game stops when the couple can say, " Let's pin the blame on the donkey instead of each other." use these phrases to stop blaming:" I see what you mean," or " I never looked at it in that way," or "You might be right".

Something to ponder upon

Here are some meaningful pictures that are worth pondering upon.

Never underestimate at woman

There was a man who had worked all of his life and had saved all of his money and was a really tight when it came to his money. He loved money more than just about anything, and just before he died, he said to his wife, "Now listen. When I die, I want you to take all my money and put it in the casket with me. I want to take my money to the after life with me." And so he got his wife to promise him with all of her heart that when he died, she would put all of the money in the casket with him.

Well, he died. He was stretched out in the casket, his wife was sitting there in black, and her friend was sitting next to her. When they finished the ceremony, just before the undertakers got ready to close the casket, the wife said, "Wait just a minute!" She had a box with her, she came over with the box and put it in the casket. Then the undertakers locked the casket down, and they rolled it away. Soher friend said, "Girl, I know you weren't fool enough to put allthatmoney in therewith your husband." She said, "Listen, I'm a GOOD WOMAN, I can't goback on myword. I promised him that I was gonna put that money in that casket with him.""You mean to tell me you put that money in the casket with him!!!!?" "I sure did,"said the wife. "I wrote him a cheque."Never Underestimate The Intelligence Of A Woman"

Handy Tips

As the saying goes, "Prevention is better than cure", well it can somehow fit this case. Whether or not your house have been burglared before, there is nothing wrong with taking measures to protect your valuables. You may have installed a burglar alarm but these things do happen anyway even with a burglar alarm. Now this may not gurrantee that your valuables will be safe the next time burglars break into your house but it will surely take a longer time for the burglars to find what they want and take it away. So here are a few steps to consider :

  • Remove valuables from burglar friendly places such as : your master bedroom, your closet, dresser drawers adn nightstands
  • Hide some of your money in a child's room or play area. Hide it on the underside of a child's table or the child's cooking set. You may even want to hide it in a stuffed toy. Be sure the money is out of the child's reach.

  • Consider hiding valuables in unorganised or cluttered places such as store rooms. Burglars want in and out. They do not want to search through a gigantic mess.

  • Use a diversion safe, such as a box of rice that is realy a safe, for some things. Be careful to only use high quality diversion boxes. Burglars are savvy to diversion boxes, so yours should look and feel like the real thing.
